Are You A Good Steward?

How do you treat others? How are you with your finances? What about your natural “gifts”. God doesn’t ask us to be perfect. But He does ask us to be perfect in Jesus Christ. We are to always do the best we can with the gifts and Blessings that He has given us. We’ve been given the 10 Commandments, of course. Everyone knows of those. However, if you follow the lessons of Jesus, we were given quite a few other instructions, like how to treat others, to accept the gifts of the Holy Spirit and to use them well, to be mindful of our finances, and to not indulge in unsavory practices like covetousness in your heart, anger, unfaithfulness, physical violence, intoxication and gossip. Money isn’t evil, but the love of money is! Wine isn’t evil, but being a drunk is! It is wrong to strike others. It is wrong to disrespect others, even if they disrespect you. Keep an even temper…don’t be quick to getting angry. If God gave you the gift to sing (for Him), then sing with all your heart. The same goes for any of the gifts that He may have given you. Always!

The most important thing for you to remember though, is that you are to LOVE others even as Christ Jesus has LOVED you‼ You’ve been taught to be nice to others, and to share with others when you were a child. But look around you now. Are you considerate of other people’s feelings? Do you help those in need? Do you fellowship with them? Do you talk with them about Jesus or do you just talk about other people and what they’re doing? Do you say bad things about people when they behave differently than you would? Or do you recognize that everyone is different and may not handle things in the same way? Do you get angry when you see something on Social Media or the news that makes you unhappy with how someone responds to anything? Why?

You cannot change how other people behave. You can speak with people about Jesus, but that doesn’t mean that they will adhere to what you’ve told them. You have absolutely no control over how others think, feel, conduct themselves in public or private. And you have no control over what other people believe. But you do have control over these things in yourself! So, I think it’s time for you to do just that.

Jesus told us that when you feed someone who is hungry, you are feeding Him; when you give water to the thirsty, you are giving it to Him; when you clothe someone who is naked and cold, you are clothing Him. Why then, would you raise your hand to another? Why curse at someone? With withhold aide to someone in need? There is so much good that could come from a little kindness and understanding. Courtesy and consideration, Empathy, and even a bit of love surely can go a long way.

There are many biblical verses about this subject in the Bible. Some of which I will read to you now, but read them all for yourself. Learn how to be a good steward by following the mandates that the Bible gives to us in God’s Word.

Titus 1:7-9 - For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; 9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. Colossians 3:23 - And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 1 Corinthians 4:2 - Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. Hebrews 13:5 - Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 1 Timothy 5:8 - But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Matthew 25:20-21 - And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Titus 2:7-8 - In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. Acts 20:35 - I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. 1 Corinthians 10:24 - Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth. 1 Corinthians 4:1 - Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Leviticus 19:9-10 - And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger I am the Lord your God.

Luke 12:42-46 - And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom [his] lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

Proverbs 11:24 - There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. Luke 16:10 - He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. Proverbs 3:27 - Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. 1 John 2:15-17 - Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Mark 12:41-44 - And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow; and she threw in two mites which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, “Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury. For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.”

1 Peter 4:10 - As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Psalms 24:1 - (A Psalm of David.) The earth is the LORD'S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

In conclusion, if you would not treat our Lord, Jesus in a certain manner, or if you would not like to be treated in that same manner, don’t treat others in that way. Be kind, be generous, and be loving. Be a good steward of all that you have and in all that you give. Likewise, the Lord will do the same for you and more!

God loves you, and I do too‼
