Do you have a relationship with Jesus? Are you truly committed to that relationship? With Christmas such a short time away, I think it is important for us to really understand what that commitment means and to understand the gospel as well. Understanding the gospel isn’t just talk that you hear in church. It is a way of life involving sin, belief, and salvation. The first two verses that I will talk today about concerns salvation. The most basic meaning of salvation is to be rescued from anything in your life that is going wrong and feels completely hopeless and may even lead to death. Without salvation, you will be facing a spiritual death that you can not recover from and rescue will not be possible.
The “Good News” is that God is willing to rescue anyone who wants to be rescued, even though NONE OF US deserve it!! It is God’s gift, and is given freely to all who truly repent of their sins.
In Romans 6:23 Paul tells us…”For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. And in Ephesians 2:8-10 he let’s us know…”For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
Death is what we’ve earned by living in sin. Through repentance, belief, and the Grace of God we can receive the gift of salvation. That “gift” is free provided you confess your sins, and put your belief in our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus died for all of us. He did this because of His love for all of us. He did this of His own free will. Free will was given to us as well, but if you choose anything other than to follow Jesus, you will be held accountable for your sins and your wages will be death. That death is and eternity in hell. Hell is being forever outside the presence of God. Any name, to include yours and mine, that is not found in the “Book of Life” will be cast into the lake of fire along with Satan and his demons.
In 2 Peter 3:9 it says; “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” This is Peter’s way of telling us that God does not want anyone to die, but wants us to all to repent, to confess our sins and to ask His forgiveness. God gave His one and only Son for the forgiveness of our sins. Are you now ready to follow Jesus or do you wish to follow Satan into hell? If you wish God to rescue you from your life of sin and it’s wages, please say the following prayer with me…
Dear Lord Jesus, I confess and ask You to forgive me of my sins. I believe and have faith that You died for me so that I may be saved. I ask You to come into my heart and my life. Please take complete control so that I may walk in Your footsteps everyday by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for Your love and forgiveness. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for the salvation that only You can provide. In Your precious and Holy Name…Amen.
