Talking about Prayer!!

Prayer

I’ve written many lessons for Talkin’ Turkey since 2011. Several of which are even on this Facebook page, and on my wix.com page. But one very important subject (of many) that I’ve neglected is “Prayer”. This was NOT intentional. For something that I believe in and take part in many times in a day, I just can’t figure out how I missed it. This lesson was not the one I had planned, but the one given. Now, I share it with you…

What is prayer? “And it came to pass that as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples”. Luke 11:1 Prayer goes way, way back, but how many of us actually do? How many even know how? When, where, what, and who are we to pray for? Do you know what is proper and what may not be when it comes to prayer? Matthew 6:6 tells us that when we pray in secret to our Father, we shall be openly rewarded. Does that mean that all prayer is to be done in secret? No…keep reading…We are also told in the Bible, not to use vain repetitions, to pray without ceasing, to seek the Lord, His strength, and to continually seek His face. One of my personal favorites though would have to be from 1John 5:14-15, “And this is the confidence that we have in him that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him”. How can we know what God’s will is? Telepathy? No…nothing like that or anything really complicated. God’s will is revealed in His Word. The Holy Bible. The more you read and study, the more God will help you understand more and more as you continue. But back to the subject at hand…prayer. The power of prayer is another subject altogether, but know that it is powerful. But it doesn’t have to be complicated, or even eloquent. You don’t have to use big words and you don’t have to go to your local layperson to get your prayers heard. God is our Father. Talk to Him. He loves us! He understands us!! After all, He made us!!! Think of the person in your life that you trust with your whole heart. Now multiply that trust by infinity and that’s how much we can trust God. But He wants to hear from us, you can talk to Him as you would your earthly father. That’s all prayer really is, when you get right down to it. A conversation between a Father and His child. You can tell Him anything. You can ask Him anything. But you must talk to Him. In closing, “Be careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God”. Philippians 4:6 I think that about says it all, don’t you? (about prayer, anyway. Hehehehehe). Until next time…take care and God Bless!! ~ Trisha Sharp
